Track Season 2012: Week 3.

hi friends! I hope all of your weekends are going well- I for one am so grateful to have a few days off to relax! Today was definitely a great day - running, coffee, study + lunch date with friends, and a whole foods trip were all involved.

Anyway, this week was definitely a tougher week than the past two. By the end of the week my legs were just tired. Kind of like the feeling that I was getting during cross country season, except not as severe. I think it's just my body telling me that it doesn't like running 6 days a week with minimal cross training - it's such a bummer than my team has no focus on weights!

Past Weeks

Workouts this Week

Sunday: BodyPump + stretching & core

Monday: Off

Tuesday: 3 x 1200 workout + stretching

Wednesday: 4.5 miles + stretching & core

Thursday: 200 workout that looked like this:
    • 2 lap warmup + drills
    • 6 x 200 fast
    • 1 mile run
    • 6 x 200 fast
    • 5 minute cooldown
    • stretching
Friday: 4.5 mile run

Saturday: Time trials #2! I ran the 1200m and the 4x400 relay. I loved the 1200! I felt awesome the entire race, and although I don't know my time I'm really happy with how I did. The 4x400 relay was definitely fun, but 400's just ain't my thang. The entire time it felt like my legs and lungs were on FIRE. It's the kind of race where you finish and feel like you're going to throw up. But a few minutes later I was feeling great!

Core/Stretching

5/6 days stretching, 2/6 days core. YIKES! stretching was awesome this week especially since I have the Stick now. It makes it so much more enjoyable. But core definitely was lacking this week. I was working a lot of shifts during the week and was pretty stressed out about having time for schoolwork, so I made excuses to skip core. Next week this is my main goal!

Random Thoughts
  • I am loving rainbow quinoa this week - i've made quinoa bites (recipe soon!), put it on salads, and made a ton of quinoa bowls.
quinoa, pasta sauce, broccoli, chicken, parmesan cheese
  • I cannot stop listening to Katy Perry's latest!

  • I really, really, really don't feel like waking up early to go to BodyPump tomorrow. But, one of my goals is to fit in at least 1 strength session a week so I'm going to drag myself out of bed anyway.

how do you fit core work into your routine? any good core workouts you want to send my way?

WIAW #9: Alexia Foods Review.

hey guys!
happy wiaw! i hope your short 4-day week is going well :) i personally can't wait for the weekend- i'm drowning in calc and econ. other than that my day was pretty good!
Peas and Crayons
i've had lots of yummy eats lately and can't wait to share them with you. so here we go!

breakfast was an english muffin with barney butter (this stuff is AMAZING! i like love it better than peanut butter. the texture and taste are pure heaven) sprinkled with some chia seeds.

i also had some egg white veggie (packin' them in in the morning!) muffins for some protein. this was the first time i've made egg muffins and these were phenomenal. i made two versions on sunday to last me through the week: mushroom + tomato + onion, and broccoli + feta.

here's the recipe:
Egg White Veggie Muffins
makes 12 muffins
these freeze really well - just pop them in a ziploc bag and reheat them as you eat them.

ingredients:
  • 1 cup egg whites
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese of choice (I used 2% cheddar)
  • salt + pepper to taste
  • 1 cup cooked veggies
directions:
  1. Cook your veggies and set the oven to 300.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients.
  3. Scoop mixture into a muffin pan that is well coated with cooking spray.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until firm in the middle.

outfit:

lunch was an awesome salad (more veg!) that included more egg muffins. i chopped up some romaine, carrots, mushrooms, and onion and topped the veggie base with three chopped egg muffins, ~1/4 cup cooked rainbow quinoa, and some shredded cheese, all drizzled with some ginger sesame dressing. so good!

i also had a big scoop of barney butter to satisfy my sweet tooth.

preworkout snack:

workout:
  • 1.25 mile warmup
  • 3 x 1200 at 4:50 pace with equal rest
  • 1.25 mile cool down
and my stretching involved a fun recent purchase:

the stick!! i've been wanting to buy one for years now but since they're so expensive i never coughed up the money. but now that i've had a job for about 6 months i figured it was time to treat my muscles to a little love (and pain, hah). this baby hurts so good but after i use it my muscles feel so much better!

lexy wanted in on the action!
postworkout snack was a goodie:
tortilla + barney butter, a pink lady apple, and a LOT of carrots (VEG!). i was really hungry (still working on my snacking) so i chowed down on carrots and my apple before i had the tortilla so that i did't go into a carb-monster mode, haha!

and dinner was awesome thanks to the coupon for an Alexia Foods product that I received through the Foodbuzz Tastemakers Program. I love Alexia Foods because they make delicious, gourmet, all-natural products - my family has been buying their stuff for years now.

I picked out some of the seasoned waffle fries - my favorite! These waffle fries rival some that you would get in a restaurant.

They also sent me this sweet apron - check out how cool it is!

I had my fries with a grilled turkey burger and an unpictured garden salad that I demolished while the fries were baking.

obviously in major need of a manicure ;)
Dessert was some frozen mixed berries that I ate straight out of the bag. Classy.

I had veggies at every meal - woop woop! Yay for Love Your Veggies Month :)

have you ever tried alexia foods?
do you use a foam roller or something like the stick?
